Community Emergency Response Team
The Florida Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program educates residents about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises. CERT members can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event when professinal responders are not immediately available to help.

An interesting fact I learned at a recent CERT refresher course, taught by the North Fort Myers Fire Department. Did you know that you may only have 3 minutes to escape your home if it is on fire if you leave your bedroom door open? You can buy yourself up to 30 minutes to escape your home if your bedroom door is closed! Check it out on YouTube. Search for CLOSE BEFORE YOU DOZE. Watch the video titled: See the dramatic Difference a door can make. Always plan ahead to have two exits from all bedrooms in your home - doors AND windows. Mike Gloss CERT (330)524-1292

There are 2 booklets available at the Pine Lakes clubhouse with information on what to do to prepare for a hurricane. Everyone should have three plans developed ahead of imminent hurricane forecasts.
Plan 1: Should include evacuation plans, including a pre packed bug out bag, food and water, and at least 2 evacuation routes and final destination reservations.
Plan 2: If you feel it is necessary to stay at you home please notify front gate, acquire all necessary supplies to be self sufficient for at least three weeks.
Plan 3: As a last and worst choice the County has shelters. Plan on where they are and prepare to take everything you will need, including food , bug out bag, bedding and water.
